How To Jailbreak Your iPhone 4S/iPad 2 Using GreenPois0n Absinthe [Windows]

The day has finally come folks. The Chronic DevTeam has now released GreenPois0n Absinthe for Windows, which allows you to jailbreak your iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Supported devices and firmwares

  • iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 or either 4S version of 5.0.1
  • iPad 2 WiFi, CDMA and GSM  running iOS 5.0.1

NOTE: If you need to unlock your iPhone 4s make sure keep your firmware at  iOS 5.0

NOTE: If GreenPoison Absinthe webclip shows “Error establishing a database connection”, all you have to do is go to Settings, turn on VPN and wait. The VPN connection will then give an error which is normal and a reboot should happen a few moments after the error.

NOTE: Doing this jailbreak will remove your iDevices ability to have OTA updates, which means you will have to manually update you iDevices firmware using iTunes.

Thanks to our friends over at (idownloadblog) we have a video demonstrations on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4s and iPad 2

6 Cydia will probably say ‘Error Establishing a Database Connection’. This is normal all you have to do is simply unplug your iPhone, go to Settings.app and turn on VPN.

7. After that you will get the same VPN error again, your iPhone will reboot and your iPhone/iPad will be fully jailbroken.

iPhone 4S Owners Hoping to Eventually Unlock Should NOT Update to iOS 5.0.1

Thanks to a tip from (cult of mac) iPhone 4S owners hoping for a future unlock should not update to iOS 5.0.1 but instead stay on iOS 5.0 to maximize their chances of an unlock.

MuscleNerd has confirmed to iClarified that an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak for iOS 5.0 will be released at the same time as the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, or a day or two later. As always, for those looking to unlock, it is standard operating procedure to stay at the lowest possible baseband.

In fact, its recommended that those already on iOS 5.0.1 should check their build number and downgrade from build 9A406 to 9A405 while Apple is still signing both builds. Due to differences in the basebands, its more likely that an unlock will be found for the earlier build than the later.

We can’t guarantee an unlock will be found for iOS 5.0. However, in November MuscleNerd revealed that an unlock was looking ‘very promising’ and was able to use an exploit to dump the baseband bootrom. However, it’s not clear if or when an unlock based on that exploit will materialize.

You can find direct 5.0 firmware download links below:

5.0 (4 GSM): iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw

How To Install iOS 5 On Your iPhone 2G/3G Or Old iPod Touch Using WhiteD00r, No Jailbreak Required

Do you have an old first or second generation iPod touch or iPhone and you would like to have all of those cool new iOS 5 features you’re missing out on, like multi-tasking, reminders, iCloud, homescreen folders and so on.

Well look no further imaNerd4Apple has you covered!!!!!!

Thanks to Whited00r, you can get iOS 5”s best features on your old iPod touch or iPhone 2G/3G, with no jailbreak required.

How does it work? The Whitedoor dev team has basically built a custom version of Apple’s official iOS 5, specially catered towards the ARM6 family of Apple devices: the iPhone 2G & 3G, and the iPod Touch 1G and 2G. You just download the IPSW firmware and install it through iTunes, just like a regular software update.

Once your device has been restored using WhiteD00r 5.1, you’ll have most of iOS 5”s best features, including multitasking, reminders, a rough approximation of iCloud that uses Dropbox as a core, folders, Newsstand, and even custom wallpapers.

You can follow the installation guide here.

Jailbreak Imminent for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s

Are you still using iOS 4.3.3 on your jailbroken iPad 2? Well its time to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1. If you don’t do so soon, you might lose your window to jailbreak iOS 5.

Here’s the deal. Thanks to the efforts of pod2g and his hacking dream team, an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 is just around the corner BigBoss explains the details below:

“Apple is due to release 5.1 soon. When that happens, they will stop signing 5.0.1. This means you will only be able to restore to 5.1. 5.1 breaks the upcoming jailbreak. If you are currently a 4s owner or an ipad 2 owner, you will want to get your device to 5.0.1 ASAP. This way when the jailbreak is released, you will be able to use it. If you do not restore to 5.0.1 now, in a few days when 5.1 is out, you may never be able to get from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and only option will be to wait again.”

We now know the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is definitely coming, so if you want to make sure you have an iOS 5 jailbreak this year, you better try and live without your jailbreak tweaks for the next couple of days and upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.

vWallpapers – Video Wallpapers And Ringtones For Your iPhone

Just got word from (fsm.com) that vWallpapers has been updated for iOS 5.01.

vWallpapers is one of the first tweaks available for iOS devices has been updated with iOS 5. Support. This tweak allows you to replace your static Springboard wallpaper with a video one. It comes with a small library of pre-defined videos, but you can download more, or create your own.  Jump over the break to see how to install and use vWallpaper.

NOTE: this version of vWallpapers is still in beta

NOTE: it will suck life out of your battery

NOTE: you need to be jailbroken. If you are not jailbroken yet, check out my tutorial in the jailbreak tab

How to get it:

1. Load Cydia

2. Go to Manage > Cydia > Sources > and add the following repo: http://deb.danstaface.net

3. Once the repo is added, you can install vWallpaper

4. Respring

Now, we don’t have any jailbroken iDevice running iOS 5 available at the moment, but we can only assume the new version of vWallpapers looks, feels and offers the same options as the previous versions. If that is the case, let’s see how to enable video wallpapers, video ringtones, and how to make and load your own videos.

How to enable video wallpapers:

1. Load vWallpaper

2. Tap on Video Wallpaper and turn ON ‘Enable video! ‘

3. Now, you can select an already downloaded video, download more videos, add new video repository ( if you know any ).

4. Once you chose the video you like, tap the home button. Your iPhone will respring and now you got a nice video wallpaper.

5. You can create your own video wallpaper and upload it to your iPhone ( we’ll show you how later )

How to enable video ringtones:

1. Load vWallpaper

2. Tap on Video Wallpaper and turn ON ‘Enable VideoRingtones ‘

3. Now, you can select an already downloaded video or download more videos.

4. Once you chose the video you like, tap the home button. Your iPhone will respring and now you got a nice video ringtone.

5. You can create your own video wallpaper and upload it to your iPhone ( we’ll show you how later )

How to use your own videos:

1. First of all you need a video file and a video editor

2. Choose a portion of that video ( around 30 seconds ) and export the video as .mov or .mp4. You will also need to export it for iPhone’s screen resolution. Some video editors allow you to export for iPhone. If the one you use, doesen’t have that option your video needs to be

  • 320×480 px for iPhone 3G/3Gs
  • 960×640 px for iPhone 4/4S

3. Once your video is exported, SSH into your iPhone and copy the video in /private/var/mobile/Media/Skrew/Videos/

4. Now load vWallpaper and set the video you just uploaded either as a wallpaper or as a ringtone ( or both )
