How To Unlock Your AT&T iPhone 4 Without Losing Your Jailbreak

The first you need to call or chat online with an AT&T representative and request an unlock code for your iPhone 4/4S.  You can only do this if your iDevice is currently out of contract.

If your iDevice is out of contract, AT&T will agree to unlock your handset. This process will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for the unlock code to be issued by Apple. Once this has happened you will receive an email from AT&T for further instructions.

After you receive email notification from AT&T the next process will work for all iPhone models except the iPhone 4S.

To save your Jailbreak while unlocking your iPhone via AT&T you will need to download the latest version of Redsn0w for Windows or Mac, extract the files and run the executable file.

Once you’ve done this select Jailbreak and then put your iPhone in DFU mode.

Click this link if you are unfamiliar with how to put your iPhone in DFU mode

Once your iPhone is in DFU mode and Redsn0w has detected it, you’re ready to proceed.

Uncheck Install Cydia and check Deactivate then click Next. You’re not actually carrying out a jailbreak here, just preparing the handset to receive the activation and unlock code from iTunes.

Once that is done, connect your iPhone to iTunes via a cable and activate it. This will unlock your iPhone while keeping your jailbreak intact.

That’s it you did it!!!!!!!!!!

iPhone 4S Owners Hoping to Eventually Unlock Should NOT Update to iOS 5.0.1

Thanks to a tip from (cult of mac) iPhone 4S owners hoping for a future unlock should not update to iOS 5.0.1 but instead stay on iOS 5.0 to maximize their chances of an unlock.

MuscleNerd has confirmed to iClarified that an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak for iOS 5.0 will be released at the same time as the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, or a day or two later. As always, for those looking to unlock, it is standard operating procedure to stay at the lowest possible baseband.

In fact, its recommended that those already on iOS 5.0.1 should check their build number and downgrade from build 9A406 to 9A405 while Apple is still signing both builds. Due to differences in the basebands, its more likely that an unlock will be found for the earlier build than the later.

We can’t guarantee an unlock will be found for iOS 5.0. However, in November MuscleNerd revealed that an unlock was looking ‘very promising’ and was able to use an exploit to dump the baseband bootrom. However, it’s not clear if or when an unlock based on that exploit will materialize.

You can find direct 5.0 firmware download links below:

5.0 (3GS): iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
5.0 (4 GSM): iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
5.0 (4 CDMA): iPhone3,3_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
5.0 (4S): iPhone4,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw

Jailbreak Imminent for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s

Are you still using iOS 4.3.3 on your jailbroken iPad 2? Well its time to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1. If you don’t do so soon, you might lose your window to jailbreak iOS 5.

Here’s the deal. Thanks to the efforts of pod2g and his hacking dream team, an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 is just around the corner BigBoss explains the details below:

“Apple is due to release 5.1 soon. When that happens, they will stop signing 5.0.1. This means you will only be able to restore to 5.1. 5.1 breaks the upcoming jailbreak. If you are currently a 4s owner or an ipad 2 owner, you will want to get your device to 5.0.1 ASAP. This way when the jailbreak is released, you will be able to use it. If you do not restore to 5.0.1 now, in a few days when 5.1 is out, you may never be able to get from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and only option will be to wait again.”

We now know the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is definitely coming, so if you want to make sure you have an iOS 5 jailbreak this year, you better try and live without your jailbreak tweaks for the next couple of days and upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.

How to add a new repository source in Cydia

Different applications in Cydia are hosted by different repositories. From time to time, you may add new repository into Cydia. Say, you find a new repository URL (example: http:/cydia.hackulo.us) which provides great iPhone tweaks. And you want to install those tweaks. To make those applications available in Cydia, you will have to install the repository URL first.

As long as you know the repository URL, add a new repository is very easy:

  1. Tap “Manage”
  2. Then tap “Source”
  3. Tap “Edit” and then “Add”
  4. Type the repository URL and tap “Add Source”

And That’s it you did it. Cydia will then look up the URL and retrieve any applications available from the new repository.

Here’s a visual of what your Cydia screen will show when your adding a new repository URL.

(Note: Cydia, by default, comes with a list of package repositories that have some cool Cydia applications as well. You can find them on the Home screen of Cydia. Just tap on anyone of them and install.)

Here’s a visual of what you will see if you choose to use a default Cydia package repository.
