More rumor information is leaking out pointing to an iPad 3 release happening in March of 2012. Macotakara, which is a Japanese blog has recently reported that we’ll see the iPad 3 and iOS 5.1 put on display, or unveiled via an event as early as the first couple weeks in February.
The news has reportedly come from two different insiders, one from the U.S. and the others from within Apple’s Asian supply chain which would obviously be close to preparation and planning behind the unveiling and then full-scale shipments of the tablets launch date.
Last year, Apple announced the iPad 2 in early March, putting it on sale roughly a week and a half later. Why would Apple need a longer announcement window this time? The reason is because Apple’s increasing the resolution of the iPad 3 to Retina Display quality, Apple wants to give developers enough time to make their existing iPad apps compatible with the iPad 3 so there’s a library of Retina Display apps available at launch.
If and when the iPad 3 goes on sale in early March, it is also anticipated that the iPad 2 will undergo a price cut, similar to the price cuts Apple makes with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, in order to compete with less expensive tablets like the Kindle Fire.
